EMS CTC Field Trip
By: Chase The CTC (Career & Technology Center) field trip is usually not available for students to attend. Students have not gone on the CTC (Career & Technology Center) field trip for a few years due to the Pandemic. But this year at EMS,8th graders were able to get a tour of one of the three Career & Technology Centers. The schools are: Mount Joy, Brownstown, and Willow Street. Now let's hear what some students think of the schools that they went to on this field trip. One student who went to Brownstown says, “I liked Brownstown. It was definitely more of a construction type school to say the least. My favorite part of the trip was definitely the architect class where they make floor plans and 3D print houses. My least favorite part I would have to say would be the plumbing class. While the job in the field does pay a lot. I just think the class itself would get repetitive.” Another student who went to Willow street said, “My favorite part was probably getting to learn more about the veterinarian side of things and seeing the sheep and bunnies. My least favorite part was probably learning about the mechanics portion. It wasn't like the worst, but it just wasn't what I was interested in. Everything was mainly great, so I don't really have any complaints and I do like how Willow Street does have a medical based part to it.” Finally, a couple of students who went to Mount Joy said, “My favorite part of Mount Joy was how interactive it was and how you could do a lot of things there. My least favorite part of Mount Joy was the engineering and welding portion.” Another student said, “My favorite part of going to Mount Joy was being able to interact with the pudding on the gloves and also I enjoyed the cookies. My least favorite part was going into the welding room.” Do you want to go to a CTC, but you do not know how to apply to participate in a program? Do not worry. The teachers at the CTC schools give pamphlets to students if they are interested, but you can only go to the school as a senior to do full day classes. You can also join as a junior, but you will only do half day classes. Some classes at Brownstown include Culinary Arts, Heavy Equipment Operations and Basic Maintenance, Painting and Interior Finishes, and Plumbing. Classes at Willow Street are Patient ]Care Technician, Medical Assistant, Animal Production Science and Tech and “Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide. Last but not least, Mount Joy includes Carpentry Technology, and Pastry Arts, Early Childhood Education, and Welding Technology. For more information, you can visit the website for each CTC campus.
