EIMS Mini-THON 2023
By: Chase |
EIMS Mini-THON has gone on for a long 12 years! This year's theme is underwater! With a theme like this, the committee is planning for water-themed signs, a wall filled with words of encouragement, a balloon arch, dancing, an inflatable obstacle course and more. Now let’s see what some Mini-THON supporters think of this year's Mini-THON lead up. One student says, “My favorite part so far would definitely be the spirit week, which is the week of the event. If I did have to change anything with the fundraisers before the event, it would be the hot chocolate fundraiser. It seemed like not as many students took their hot chocolate compared to as many that bought tickets.” A teacher says, “I love Mini-THON week. It gets people excited for the main event, and the spirit weeks are always fun.”
Now that we have learned about what students and teachers think about Mini-THON, let's see what some of the committee thinks about it. One committee member says, “I've heard about Mini-THON since 6th grade, but I only joined in my 7th grade year. I'm now into my 8th grade year and I plan to continue in high school. I've only been to two events, this year included. It's a lot of fun and I always end up remembering it very well.” The teacher in charge of the committee said, “Yes, it's a lot of hard work between all of the fundraisers, giving out t-shirts and planning and making the main event possible, but it's always so fun every year.” The event started out with fifth and sixth graders being greeted at the door by a committee member and being directed to the cafeteria for food before the festivities began. Next, some students were called to play in the three versus three basketball game. While this was going on, other students were in the new gymnasium playing games such as Connect Four, Mega Jenga, Ring Toss, and a photo booth. Mini-THON also had an inflatable slide and an inflatable obstacle course. Of course, students were also dancing along to music that was suggested by the students themselves and played by the school’s own DJ. The fifth and sixth grade Mini-THON was from 4-6 pm and the seventh and eighth grade event was from 7-9 pm. The night ended by gathering everyone in the new gymnasium to unveil the grand total raised for children with cancer. This year EIMS raised $20,033.67 for cancer! Do you want to be a part of the committee, but you do not know how to apply? Do not worry. Talk to Mrs. Greaves in the 5th grade hallway next year and ask to have a form to apply. If you are already a part of the committee, you will automatically be put in for the committee next year. |
