Lancaster County Career & Technology Center

The Lancaster Country Career & Technology Center, or better known as LCCTC, is a place to prepare high school students and adults for their future careers. And thanks to them, all 8th graders had the opportunity to go to one of their three campuses. The three campuses were Brownstown, Mount Joy, and Willow Street. Our guidance counselor, Mrs. Mahlandt, asked us to pick which campus we wanted to attend. If we planned to do photography, we could have gone to Brownstown. If we were interested in car mechanics, we could go to Willow Street. And by doing that it felt like we were one-step to no longer being considered kids. And thankfully enough I got some of my fellow classmates to tell me about their experience.
The closest campus is Brownstown. It held many interests for artistic kids. For example, Corbin had chosen Brownstown for that reason. “Commercial art was one of the reasons why I went from the computers to the teachers, and the models there were cool, too.” And another option was digital art. “I went to Brownstown because they had a lot of things in digital artwork, or anything in the art field really. And seeing the game design room piqued my interest, and got me excited.” Said Vic, another student who attended Brownstown.
The next campus is Mount Joy. It held a variety of interests from dental technology to nursing. Natalie went to Mount Joy because she wanted to be a nurse, and going into the crane, a machine that lifts you up with a harness, was definitely one of her favorite parts. And as for Hunter, he went to Mount Joy because he wanted to somehow be in culinary arts, and getting to see how they prepared the food, along with seeing how they had their own restaurant in the campus were his favorite parts.
And lastly, the farthest campus, Willow Street, definitely has some more medical-oriented things, but it also it holds its own car shop. And Kavin went there because of the agriculture it held in veterinary science. He states, “I loved the agriculture part of it because I love animals.” Another person, Cameron, went to Willow Street, too, but her reason was because people had suggested for her to go there, and she ended up finding something she’d want to do in the future. “The veterinary part was my highlight, and now it makes me want to actually be a vet.”
