No Place Like Nowhere
Staff Writer: Delaney
‘No Place Like Nowhere’ is done showing, but it was definitely a great show to see. ‘No Place Like Nowhere’ featured a fictional town placed in Nevada called Nowhere. Government agents begin to come to Nowhere so they can take over the land so the little town can be turned into a toxic waste dump. Problems begin to take place though. For a deeper look inside the play, we’ve asked the EIMS theatre director, Mr. Clark, a few questions. Here’s what he had to say.
What is your favorite part about working in the theatre department at this school?
“Working with the students in the Cast and Support Crew and watching them gain confidence and improve their skills while engaging in teamwork, is my favorite part of being the Director of 528 Theatre.”
What's the process for auditioning to be in a school production?
“In order to audition for a part in a play or musical at EIMS, the first thing that must be done is that an interested student needs to pick up an Information Packet in either the EIS or EMS office. This should be reviewed at home and the appropriate signed forms are then brought to their audition.”
Is it a rewarding experience getting to see the play come together?
“Seeing the students grow from the first rehearsal through the last performance of a show is a very rewarding experience for me and the Cast and Support Crew. Their success keeps me going.”
Why do you think people enjoy theatre?
“Some students have a natural ability to act and sing, while performing on stage and, for many students, 528 Theatre provides their first opportunity to try this activity. They put in long hours after school and at home to learn their roles. Once they finish a show, most of them will continue to audition for shows. They have discovered that they enjoy performing and have become part of a unique family of students who share the same desire to entertain an audience.”
The school looks forward to the theatre productions soon to come from Mr. Clark. We hope the spring musical will be just as great as ‘No Place Like Nowhere’.

Synopsis…
What is there to do in the middle of Nowhere? Just ask a temperamental movie star, the paparazzi, secret agents, a crooked congressman, and two brothers putting on a two-man production of Romeo and Juliet! Years ago, a corrupt congressman promised a highway to the desert town of Nowhere, Nevada, but it missed their town by 200 miles, making rival Rattle Snake City the benefactor. Now the government has 500 tons of toxic waste they need to store somewhere, so they decide to dump it in Nowhere and send government agents to force the citizens to leave the economically depressed town. Meanwhile, miles away, a movie crew is filming a western when their high-strung star actress walks out on them. She finds herself in Nowhere, where spies, paparazzi and the crooked Congressman Snord soon converge. (Maybe he could get straightened out at Bob’s Tire Store and Chiropractic Clinic, where Bob aligns your wheels and your spine!) Chaos and hilarity reign as the toxic waste is about to be dumped, and the citizens of Nowhere — and your audience — witness possibly the worst performance of Shakespeare ever staged, compliments of the Gass brothers! Is that toxic waste we smell, or is it just the local cuisine? Get ready for tons of fun and an outpouring of laughter with this hysterical romp!
The current cast consists of 27 students from Grades 5 though 8 who rehearse every Monday through Friday for at least 2 1/4 hours a day after school. Nineteen students are in support roles such as stage crew, lighting crew, sound crew, set painting and costume assistants.
This production of No Place Like Nowhere is directed by Mr. Dan Clark, a retired EASD teacher, who is assisted by Mrs. Mandy Ulrich, Costumes, Mrs. Sue Izydorczyk, Set Painting, Mr. Rod Snyder Set Design and Construction and Miss Erica Littlejohn, Student Director.
