EMS Winter Concert
by Desi
The Ephrata Middle School had a Winter Concert performance December 18, 2018. It was an event for all the musicians in our school to show their hard work to their friends and family by doing what they love. The numerous performances were conducted by Mr. Goss, Mr. Ney, and Mrs. Ohlinger.
The first performance of the night was by the full band, their conductor being Mr. Goss. The pieces that they played were “A Midwinter Festival” by Gene Milford, “December Sky” by Erik Morales, and “Christmas is Coming” by Rob Romeyn. Next was Mounts Melodic, a small group from the full chorus, led by Mrs. Ohlinger. Their first song was “Hush” by Sally K. Albrecht, and their second song was “True Colors” by Steinberg and Kelly, arranged by Roger Emerson.
After that was the chamber ensemble, a portion of the full orchestra, led by Mr. Ney. They played “Inverno” by Vivaldi/Parrish, then came the full orchestra, also led by Mr. Ney. They played “Sinfonia in A Minor” by Georg Philipp Telemann, “Bells!” by Doris Gazda, and “Carol of the Bells/Greensleeves” arranged by Larry Clark.
Lastly, the full chorus sang led by Mrs. Ohlinger. They ended the whole performance with “Hallelujah” (from Messiah) by G.F Handel, “O Come and See the Baby” by Sally K. Albrecht, “Seasons of Love” by Jonathan Larson, arranged by Roger Emerson, and lastly “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” by Johnny Marks, arranged by Mac Huff.
And thanks to these amazing students’ hard work, we all got to enjoy the music they all had practiced and worked hard for. And as a musician that performed that night, all the nerves and anxiety were high, but it all came though and the night was fun in the end. Thank you to all the families and friends that attended, along with a thank you to all the students that performed that night.
