Ephrata Girls’ Soccer Team Exemplifies Perseverance
by Olivia
Our lives have drastically changed because of the coronavirus over the past two years. The 2021 girls’ soccer season has been impacted by the coronavirus also. Because of the coronavirus many players have been quarantined during the season, resulting in a shortage of players for games. Most of the JV girls had to play for both teams, and instead of 11v11 playing they had to play their games 8v8. The coaches would like to see a larger player pool to choose from so they can have more players during games.
The soccer team practices 3:30 through 5:30 every weekday during the soccer season. Practice starts with a dynamic warmup, followed by quick feet training. Then they split into the varsity team and the JV team. The JV team does a progression of skills from foot skills to one-two touch passing.
The girls’ soccer team had five wins, seven loses, and three ties this season. Six of the seven losses had a one goal differential. The team saved their best game for last, when playing against LS. The scores were tied with only two minutes remaining and Ephrata scored at the very end with only one-minute left to beat them. Coach DeHaven said, “We were relentless and didn't back down the entire game. It was great to see our season come together. If I had one word to describe my team this year, I would say they exemplified Perseverance.”
