Coach Helock says that “Covid has not affected as much as last year, but there is a looming threat of shutting everything down and losing everything that they worked hard for this season. It only takes one kid to wipe out the entire team and derail our season. Players are asked to be mindful to continue to follow protocols and rules to ensure that we can continue to compete.” So as you can see the Ephrata football team was also affected by Covid.
The Ephrata football team also competes against different schools. They have competed against Garden Spot, Lampeter-Strasburg, ELCO, Donegal, Warwick, and Lebanon. All the other schools also have good teams. Sometimes they have a really good competition and other times it can be very easy. The official score this season is 4-2. So 2 wins and 2 loses. The different teams that they have is Gold is the varsity team, and Purple is their JV. For the most part Gold team Varsity are 9th graders and Purple JV is 8th graders with a few exceptions.
Playing a sport can be really tough. You have to practice and train a lot to be a really good football player. Practice looks like a lot of team tackling drills, individual positions, and then the whole team comes together and runs through the plays together. The teams usually have somewhere between 50-60 athletes. When they play, there are usually 11 players out at a time. They then take turns switching out.
In conclusion, Covid has affected the football team, they have 2-2 wins and loses, they compete against a variety of different schools, and it takes a whole lot of practice to make an awesome team. The Ephrata Football team will continue to be a great team and work hard to become an excellent one.
