What is Geography Bee?
The National Geographic Bee, an annual geography program of National Geographic Society, is a nationwide geography competition for the U.S schools with any grades K-12th, designed to encourage students to learn and study the world of geography.
What is the competition?
The annual competition is designed to inspire and reward students about the world. Competitions typically occur around the months of November, December, or January. Competitions require at least 6 people to enter. Public schools, private schools, homeschool groups can enter. On average, between five and six million students are entered each year. The two major stages in this competition are called the preliminary and final stages. The preliminary competition is split into rounds and a semi-final. Now, if a tie were to occur, a tiebreaker round would be held at the end of the preliminary rounds.
What is the format of the competition?
During the time of qualifications, it could get hard. Registered schools must hold their school-level contest by following the eligibility rules and academic rules, and they can use suggested procedures contained by their instruction booklet. All schools are accountable for their school-level Geography Bee. For every participating school, only ONE student may win. Around spring time, the teacher who gave the qualifying test would get notified if that student is qualified to represent in that level. The top 100 students, who win the schools Bee, will move on and compete to the state competition.
What could you win?
The ten finalists are to be given $1,000. The third-place finisher will receive a $5,000 college scholarship, the second-place finisher receives a $10,000 college scholarship, and the national champion receives a $25,000 college scholarship. Not only does the national champion receive a Scholarship, but also a membership in the National Geographic Society.
