LCCTC Field Trip
Staff Writer: Erin
The Lancaster County Career and Technology Center, also known as the LCCTC, is a place that prepares people for skilled, innovative and productive careers. It simulates the world of work and provides hands-on learning. We have been doing the CTC field trip for at least 10 years. The three campuses are Mount Joy, Brownstown, and Willow Street. The education that is provided there is in centers. There are centers for advanced manufacturing, agriscience, construction technologies, consumer services, culinary arts, information technology, medical/dental care, protective services, transportation technologies, and visual communications. The half day programs are introduction to construction careers, introduction to culinary arts careers, introduction to health careers, introduction to manufacturing careers, introduction to transportation careers, and introduction to visual communications careers. More than 88% of the students who go there are planning to continue to go to postsecondary education. Six in 10 students are planning to pursue a career related to the area they are exploring when they go there in high school. Almost 1/3 of students can earn college credit and/or an industry certification through the CTC. When you are finished going to the CTC, you do not need to go to school or college, but you can. It is your choice as a student. The CTC is a full-service career and technological school and its purpose is to prepare students for skilled, innovative, and productive careers for their interest. You attend the CTC for about 1-2 years. There are half day programs for when you are a junior and there are full day programs for when you are a senior. If you graduate, they do help you find a job. Many times, students get employed when they do co-ops during their senior year. The whole purpose of the CTC field trip is to give people more choices for their future.
