Veteran's Day

Veterans Day is a federal holiday, annually on November 11, for honoring military veterans or people who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Most people think that Memorial Day and Veterans Day are the same thing, but they aren’t. Memorial Day is a time to remember those who gave their lives for our country, particularly in battle or from wounds they suffered in battle. Veterans Day honors all of those who have served the country — dead or alive — although it’s largely intended to thank living veterans for their sacrifices. The Veterans Day Assembly kicked off with the band playing while the Mounts Melodic sang “The Star-Spangled Banner.” After that, Mr. Garman introduced four veterans who served our country. One of the veterans was from the Army, one was from the Reserves, and the other two were from the Air Force. Each veteran talked about what their role was and gave a funny story. After asking Mr. Garman about the purpose of the Veteran's Day Assembly, he shared that the school thinks it is very important to honor Veteran's Day and express our appreciation to our veterans for their service to our country. It is also important for our students to understand how much they owe to this group of Americans.
