EMS Morning Announcements
By: Chase
The morning announcements have been videos for the past 4 years. At first, a group of 8th graders decided to record video announcements. They then decided to continue. Because of COVID, Mrs. Gerlach said that the only things that have changed are social distancing and mask wearing. Are you wondering how people joined the morning announcements? Do you want to join in on the announcements? When students choose their classes for 7th and 8th grade, they are able to choose media production. Mrs. Gerlach does not only teach students how to read announcements, but she also teaches students how to create logos for their brand and how to create podcasts. She also teaches people how to use the equipment.
Do you want to join, but you do not know how to make any announcements? Do not worry. Mrs. Gerlach will teach you how to make them. She will have you learn the parts that go into a news piece and then have you write scripts for the video recording. She will teach you how to edit and make the video look more professional. Some tools that are used to help the announcements more include the Mac computers in the Makerspace and the green screen room is equipped with cameras, microphones and teleprompters. It is suggested to have two people on the announcements at a time, but they have groups of three which consist of two reporters and one person to work the teleprompter. All three work on editing. Are you wondering how much time announcements will take? Mrs. Gerlach has said that if you start at the beginning of a Related Arts period and usually take two Related Arts periods to write, to film, to edit and to produce a video for the announcements. If you do not like being on camera, but still want to be a part of it, you can just edit the video and not have to go on camera.
Would you like to be involved in the morning announcements, but you don’t know what experience you need? Mrs. Gerlach says the only thing you need for announcements is a willingness to speak in front of a camera and be funny and witty in your writing.
